League Week 1

Curriculum & Tips for 3’s

First impressions are important. Set a positive tone right away by greeting each participant with a smile, introducing yourself, and asking for a high five!

Environment Tip:

Have Fun by playing the games WITH the kids. The participants will follow your lead and your energy, so if you’re having fun, the kids will too! Don’t explain the game and stand back to watch; get involved.

Week 1 is Merch Day, make sure every participant receives their team jersey!

3’s Week 1 Curriculum

The 3’s curriculum repeats the first 2 weeks in order for the kids to get comfortable and improve during this new experience.

3’s Skills

3’s Games

All Get A Ball. In this approach we ask the parents to find a comfortable spot on the sidelines to allow their kiddos to give it a try all by themselves. We then have each team meet at their assigned goal with their soccer ball where we explain the goal of the game.

Each child has their own ball to dribble from their goal to the other goal and score. After they score they stay in the goal in which they scored until all the kids finish. The kids repeat the game, heading back to the goal in which they started to play again, 3-4 times.

The role of the coach in this approach is to provide a high level of energy, communication, and encouragement to the kids. Encourage the kids to keep their heads up, only use their feet and to be aware of the other team so they don’t run into them on their way to score. Also encourage proper dribbling and ball striking technique while giving loads of praise and high fives as the kids score.

3’s Scrimmage Type

Feet Only/No Hands. Help the kids get in the habit of using feet only, no hands.

Jerseys, why do we wear them? Tell them there are two teams in soccer games, which is why we wear different jerseys/pinnies.

3’s Tactical Goals

UPside Skill: Try New Things. To teach trying new things, give lots of praise and high fives to encourage the kids to step out of their comfort zones. When introducing new games or skills, tell them you’re proud of them for trying something new. Remind them that while trying new things can be scary, but it’s the best way to grow. When we try new things, we open ourselves up to finding new favorites!
