It’s Medal Day! End the season on a high note and make the last day as fun and exciting as possible! When passing out medals, say one positive thing each child can be proud about.
League Week 6
Curriculum & Tips for 4&5’s
Communicate with kids clearly and concisely, loud enough for parents to hear.
Environment Tip:
Quickly review each of the skills taught throughout the season. When the ball goes out of bounds during the scrimmage, have the kids take turns kicking it back in.
4&5’s Week 6 Curriculum
4&5’s Skills
4&5’s Games
Traditional. In this approach, the kids play 4 v 4 soccer with one ball for the entire field for two 12-15 minute halves.
The role of the coach during the game is to be high energy, offer praise and congratulations to the kids for trying new things and progress their development. Remind the kids during the scrimmage to use only their feet, to watch out for their friends and the other team. Have an extra ball in hand to use if the ball on the field goes out of bounds.
The successful coach will incorporate a “volunteer cheer zone helper” to help with substitutions and explaining the game to ensure that the majority of time is spent with the kids playing.
4&5’s Scrimmage Type
Kick ins. Help the kids understand and practice kick-ins to get the ball back in bounds, moving them closer to traditional soccer rules.
4&5’s Tactical Goals
UPside Skill: Teamwork. To teach teamwork during your sessions, encourage the kids to work together during games and the scrimmage. Encourage them to help each other, share and listen closely when other teammates are talking. You can reinforce the UPside skill throughout the session by reminding the kids what team they’re on and asking them how they can help their teammates.
