League Week 2

Curriculum & Tips for 2’s

Ask for big high fives when welcoming each child to the field!

Environment Tip:

Praise effort over identity. For example, say “good job working hard!” instead of “you’re such a hard worker”.

2’s Week 2 Curriculum

The first three weeks of curriculum for the 2’s stays the same, allowing the kids time to get used to the new experience and practice their skills! Encourage the development of the skills introduced in week 1.

2’s Skills

2’s Games

2’s Scrimmage Type

Each child has their own ball to dribble from their goal to the other goal and score. After they score they stay in the goal in which they scored until all the kids finish. With the help of the parents, the kids repeat the game, heading back to the goal in which they started to play again, about 3-4 times.

The role of the coach in this approach is to provide a high level of energy, communication, and encouragement to both the kids and the parents.

2’s Tactical Goals

Goals & Corner Flags. Help the kids develop an understanding of the boundary lines and set up of the field.

2’s Character Goals

UPside Skill: Perseverance. To teach perseverance during your sessions, encourage the kids to keep trying even after initial failure. For example, if they miss a shot on goal, remind them that we never give up, even when things are hard. Always encourage kids to try again when they fail at a task. When introducing difficult skills, have the kids shout out “Never give up!” to motivate them to keep practicing.
