League Week 4
Curriculum & Tips for 3’s
Greet each child by name as they arrive at the field!
Show the kids that failure is part okay and part of the process by making mistakes and acknowledging them, for example, try to knock over a cone with the ball and miss, then say “oh no I missed! That’s okay, I’ll try again!”

In this approach we ask the parents to find a comfortable spot on the sidelines to allow their kiddos to give it a try all by themselves. We then have each team meet at their assigned goal with their soccer ball where we explain the goal of the game.
Each child has their own ball to dribble from their goal to the other goal and score. After they score they stay in the goal in which they scored until all the kids finish. The kids repeat the game, heading back to the goal in which they started to play again, 3-4 times.
The role of the coach in this approach is to provide a high level of energy, communication, and encouragement to the kids. Encourage the kids to keep their heads up, only use their feet and to be aware of the other team so they don’t run into them on their way to score. Also encourage proper dribbling and ball striking technique while giving loads of praise and high fives as the kids score.
Attacking/Defending. Help the kids understand the roles you can have on a soccer team, offense and defense. Offense works on scoring goals, while defense works to protect the goal. Assign a few kids to each role, making sure to switch so everyone gets a chance to play in both roles.

UPside Skill: Try New Things. To teach trying new things, give lots of praise and high fives to encourage the kids to step out of their comfort zones. When introducing new games or skills, tell them you’re proud of them for trying something new. Remind them that while trying new things can be scary, but it’s the best way to grow. When we try new things, we open ourselves up to finding new favorites!
